High Time to Address These Crucial Questions
By
B. E. Kimball
Man always makes known his personal belief-systems (doctrines)
according to his expertise in the knowledge and understanding of the Scriptures. As he progresses in this knowledge, there must be a willingness to change when new truths are realized. Thus, we, like
the reformers of old, must always be willing to embrace new and fresh insights
of the Scriptures when presented to us and not continue holding to man's dogmas because of peer pressure or any other
sort of personal influence that may arise by way of church, family, employment or most probably for the sake of unity.
I would like to strongly suggest to you that it is high time to reconsider some doctrinal issues that you may believe were settled long ago. Let me pose just a few of these for
you to keep in mind as you continue in this quest for a better understand of the Scriptures:
- Was Jesus mistaken when He promised
He would return the second time in that generation? Why are some still waiting
for His return after it has been 2000 plus years since He promised that He would return? Was Jesus lying or could it be that
He was a false prophet as Scripture would suggest when a prophecy does not come true? Did He have to come up with an alternative
plan for a future arrival date or perhaps today’s most prevalent teaching of a future coming is in error? Could this
inconsistency be one of the reasons why some, if not most, brilliant people do not believe in or trust the Bible?
- Do you find it interesting that Daniel’s
prophecy was to occur in less than 600 years (586 BC) and he was told to seal up his
prophecy because it was still a long time away. In contrast, the prophecy of the second coming was not to be sealed because that time was at hand, not 2000 years later
(and still counting) as many are claiming today? Could God be as confused about time as we apparently are?
- Is Jesus coming back again in our
future - or has He already come? The Bible only talks about a Second Coming nothing is said about a Third Coming. What about
the spiritual gifts today? What is left for Preterists to look forward to? What portions of the Scripture have not yet been
fulfilled?
- Did you seek the Lord and choose salvation
or did the Lord perform a work in your heart first that opened your eyes unto the
truth of salvation as He called you? If man’s free will is true, would it
then have been a possibility that no one would have accepted the Lord, making His sacrifice on the cross to none effect? Did
Jesus have to look into the future to be sure that someone would will to choose
His plan of salvation? Can your will really override God’s will? Is man’s will God’s or is God’s will
man’s…?
- Is salvation by grace alone or are some works needed, such as water
baptism? If even the smallest portion of works were to be added to saving grace, would it still be grace or just another system
of works? Is Christianity different from all other religions because man’s works are not needed for salvation? Does
not the Bible tell us that the good works come after salvation, because it is the Lord’s power working in us that causes
us to do these good works?
6. Was the flood during Noah’s time global, or was it
a regional flood? Does the Book of Genesis explain the Book of Revelation and visa-versa? Are these two books tied together
in a most impressive and needful way? Is it probable that the same wording that
is found in the local event of Sodom and Gomorrah holds the key to understanding
that the flood and second coming of Jesus were physically local events too?
- Should we let the Bible reveal truths
by using Scripture to understand Scripture or dare we use the speculations and traditions of others instead? Would the best
way be to let Scripture define Scripture on a spiritual level, but not to the degree where it would deny proven observable
and scientific facts in the physical level? Wouldn’t we need both the spiritual discernment of the Bible and the physical
observations of science, so that we as Christians would not make nonsense of the Bible to those we are witnessing to? Is this
yet another reason why learned infidels scorn the Christian faith? How did geocentric ideas get started?
- Is the world only about 6,000 years
old or is it actually much older as scientific studies demonstrate? In Jesus’ time, was the world (this earth) thought
of as a sphere? And did they understand the workings of our solar system?
- Can you rightly believe in an old
earth and a future second coming of Christ at the same time and still have consistency and truth in your conclusions? Can
you rightly believe in a young earth and also hold to a past view of the second coming? If not, why not? Is it because both
of these two views are inconsistent? Shouldn’t we believe in an old earth
and a past second coming to accurately dovetail the truths of Holy Scripture?
- Was the Old Testament plan so faulty that a totally New Testament had to be introduced? Did God have to come up with a Plan B? Should there
be a gap between the Old and New Testaments? Is the gap theory of Genesis correct? Shouldn’t both testaments be read
as one continuous covenantal event?
- If you were to believe in a young
earth, would this theory, because of the very short time span to date, even make Darwin shake his head in unbelief?
- If you took every word in the Bible
in an absolutely literal sense, would you find Scripture contradictory to other
passages of Scripture? Shouldn’t we then use Scripture and God’s physical
creation, mixed with personal humility, to discern truth and establish our conclusions?
- Are some translations more accurate
than others? Should their origins be of any concern? Are some of the most popular translations taken from corrupt manuscripts?
Do you understand why dynamic equivalence is used by modern translators, but a
word-for-word method was used by the King James Version translators? Why are the oldest texts that are available to us today corrupt? Could it be that the oldest texts that
we still have available to us today are still intact and in good shape because of non-use?
14. Do all of the Bible translations into the English language reflect the true meaning
of words, and are they being used as they were originally intended and understood? Haven’t we in our short lifetime
already seen many word meanings change?
- When we talk in phrases, peoples of
other languages and dialects do not understand what we mean, because they take those exact words literally. Should we be doing the same thing when understanding the Scriptures?
- Will this world/earth ever end? Must
the world become evil in order to usher in the second coming? Is this belief why Christians have left their civic responsibilities
to the ungodly? Should we be waiting for the rapture to end our problems? Isn’t this still the same world physically that God called a very good creation? Did Adam’s sin really change the physical world
as seen now?
- Are there special groups of people
today, such as the Jews, or are all believers under God’s one and only covenant?
What about futurist dispensational teachings?
- If the global flood doctrine is in
error, does this mean that the world/earth will still be consumed by fire sometime
in our future? Is the tribulation still in our future? Has all of Scripture been fulfilled? What unfulfilled prophecies might still await us in the future if any?
- Are you aware that if you logically
take the doctrine of a young earth to its conclusion, it would have to prove evolution, which is a false belief? Actually,
wouldn’t it have to be a hyper-evolution? And the doctrine of a global flood,
wouldn’t it also have to prove this same conclusion of evolution? Wouldn’t the extremely brief period of time since Noah, be one of the major keys in understanding this truth?
- If a hyper-literal interpretation distorts the intent and meaning of the Bible, shouldn’t we then embrace all of the
Scriptures as covenantal statements and not as scientific documents of the physical
world and of our future events?
- Could those who favorably use futurist
and young earth teachings to evangelize others, actually be bringing God’s Word under an unfortunate and needless rebuke
by those who can see doctrinal errors in these teachings, such as the Muslims? Can we witness to Muslims if they see how these
doctrines cause us to be unfairly partial to the Jews? Do these false teachings also cause some to remain Bible skeptics and
atheists? By espousing these false doctrines of futurism and young earth teachings, are we then also standing with the modern
day cults that teach these same errors? How about the liberals who also treat God’s Word carelessly and unjustly? Are
we literally teaching them that Jesus was in error and that the Bible can not be trusted?
- If we had the answers to these and
other questions, might we then have a wholesome brotherly unity instead of the false ecumenical unity of today? Can we sacrifice biblical doctrine for an empty unity? Would
this be the correct way to ‘‘build bridges” between opposing religious groups? Would you agree that we can
not simply have unity on the premise of “no doctrines at all” as many liberals understand fellowship? Nor can
we have unity solely in a belief of Preterism as are only determining criteria. Can we have unity in a preterist movement when some of the members hold to an Arminian
theology that insists on man’s good works for salvation, such as baptismal regeneration and a faith that allows man’s
will preeminence over Gods? Others are of the Calvinistic persuasion that correctly teaches and proves God to be God and gives
explanation as to why man’s will and works are only a secondary work or means
in God’s sovereign plan? The differences between these two diametrically opposed
faiths are where the battles should be centered and not in trivial differences
of eschatology, that pale in comparison to such doctrines as salvation by God’s grace alone. Is this not correct?
- It may very well be true that Preterism,
a fulfilled eschatology of all biblical prophecies, has the ability to prove all of the Scriptures in the Bible to be correct
to the liberals, skeptics, atheists and the like, which is very fortunate for us that are witnessing to these people. However,
if the truth is that God does His own choosing of men for salvation, then we must keep these basic truths and fundamental
doctrines strong and in tact, honoring our Sovereign Lord’s ability to do His own work. We are only messengers of God’s
Word; God will make the changes in the hearts of men, not us. Should we not then keep our priorities in order and build our unity with the brethren on sound exegesis in such a manner that is pleasing to God? Lets not attempt
to force GOD to accept our systems.
The Scriptures, my brethren, are provided,
inspired and preserved by the LORD. It is our responsibility to uphold, rightly discern and comply. May the Lord, through His Holy Spirit, give us the strength and determination
to continue with this struggle in search of divine truth!

CONTINUITY
OF THE BIBLE AS ONE
UNBROKEN COVENANTAL MESSAGE
OLD COVENANT (OF LAW)
TO THE NEW COVENANT (OF GRACE)
To Ultra-simplify what the content and intent of the Bible is and what Holy Scripture is
actually meaning to convey to us, from the first book of Genesis of the Old Covenant to the last book of the New Testament
the book of Revelation, lets keep in mind, when reading and studying, that the entirety of the Bible is to be understood in simple terms of moving from the Old Covenant to the New Covenant.
And for us to be in God’s favor we must be under His Covenant.
[. . .When we view the Bible as one story,
we discover that “new covenant” principles begin early in Genesis – the gospel is revealed before the fall
– and the last of the “old covenant” shadows pass away, in finality, at the end of Revelation. This is impossible
to grasp when Christians habitually think of the Bible as two segments divided by that blank “New Testament” page.]…
(This excerpt is taken from page 421 of BEYOND CREATION SCIENCE).
The Holy Scripture was written and preserved
so that the-common-man could understand its concepts and principles! The one and only theme of Holy Writ is to demonstrate
the fact that Adam, our legal representative of mankind, forfeited the kingdom to Satan by sinning (breaking the Covenant
with God) and from that time on God selected a special people, lets refer to them for now as the Israelites, who were to perform
daily ritualistic tasks such as animal blood sacrifices allowing and making
possible for the sins of the people to be rolled ahead to the predetermined time when the Second Adam (Christ) would return and
pay-in-full for these sins with His precious blood ushering in the New Covenant. This was accomplished at Calvary.
But from Calvary to The Second Coming in A.D.70 there was a time frame
of forty years (one generation) known as the Transitional Period [see Chart by ES]. The purpose of this Transitional Period was to allow time for the Jews to understand this truth and to convert from the Old Covenant
(physical-laws-bondage) to the New Covenant (spiritual-Grace-freedom).
There has always been just one special group of Covenantal Peoples and it is not just
the Jews anymore, it is anyone who belongs
to Christ Jesus. This believing group of people is known today as the Church. The Church is now the Israel of God. Jesus does
not have different special groups of people. There is only one plan of salvation and one people under our Lord.
Basically that is the Bibles entire premise; moving
from the Old Covenant to the New Covenant! I am not implying that
the Old Covenant was destroyed because it was not good but that the New Testament/Covenant, which is much better, came from
and grew out of the truth of the Old Testament/ Covenant. Christ Jesus did not come to destroy
the law but to fulfill the law and then impute His righteousness
unto us.
Nothing has been or is a surprise to The All Mighty; Everything He has done and is still
doing has perfect timing and placement. You do not have to be a rocket scientist or a mathematician to understand the plan
of God. Understanding the intent of the Bible is in itself a very simple plan and purpose. The Word of God has no intent of
explaining all the wonders of the earth, the solar systems and or other unrelated secular questions. The Bible’s
purpose explains only the relationship needed between you and GOD for salvation in Covenantal terms!
This being the utmost meaning and intention of the Scriptures you will have to
constantly keep in mind that all events
mentioned in the Scriptures are designed for this one and only central purpose and time frame. Do not allow such modern
teachings as 'Futurism' to complicate this one and only pure truth into a gap of 2000 plus years to date (as if God had to
come up with a Plan-B) with its many hermeneutical twists, erroneous postponement theories, ever changing 'date setting' perplexities
and typical false prophecies! Let's give ALL the credit and honor to the LORD and not to man and especially not to Satan who has been totally defeated! Embrace our GOD given freedoms and stand with the Modern Reformation Movement
in exposing the fear, bondage and intimidation tactics of these false futuristic world ending doctrine mongers and supposed 'pending tribulation' teachings now! And earnestly search the Scriptures daily as did the
faithful Bereans whose efforts are now accurately recorded in the book of Acts. This will enable you to discern
if certain teachings of men are or are not true to the Scriptures...Sola Scriptura!
[The
real reason the influence of secular unbelief is so great in our day lies in the widespread failure of Christians to understand the Bible in its own context and present real Christianity to the world. Many
turn the Bible into a scientific statement from the beginning of Genesis to the end of Revelation. David goes out to battle
wearing Saul’s armor.
Christians
have lost influence in Western society precisely because they have presented falsehood-
whether young-earth creationism on one end of the Bible or futurism on the other – on the authority of God’s Word.
Christians have lost influence in Western society precisely because Christians
have not thought deeply or acted wisely in response to the cultural challenges modernity presents to the Christian faith.
The modern
Christian alternative to the impotent worldview of secular materialism is too often a sterile gospel of retreatism, pessimism,
irrelevancy, and silly provincialism. On the Right, it is a gospel that cares for little beyond “soul-winning”
and personal pietism. On the Left it is a gospel reduced to political policy and social action. In both cases only an enfeebled
counterfeit of Christianity is presented. It should be no surprise that secular materialism or new age mysticism claims children
who grow up in American churches by the droves. A hybridized gospel simply cannot reproduce itself from one generation to
another. The real problem is not “them” – it is “us.” (An excerpt from BEYOND CREATION SCIENCE
pg. 425, paragraph 1-3.)]…
In
opposition to the false beliefs of a Young Earth and its future soon ending in
disaster should explain why [While old-earth creationism is expanding the time perspective of the past for some Christians,
Preterism is expanding the time perspective toward the future for others. These two groups within the Church are a perfect
match for each other, and have been for more than a hundred years. (An excerpt from BEYOND CREATION SCIENCE pg. 430)]…
[…
In the recent past many have sought unity among God’s people by downplaying or ignoring the real theological differences
among historic traditions within the Church. This strategy of “ecumenism” has never accomplished much of lasting
value. Either the concept of truth is sacrificed altogether, leading to a shallow, irrelevant, and impotent Christianity,
or the areas of unity are reduced to a tiny sphere. Christians are sometimes forced into unity by outside pressures and threats.
(Excerpt taken from the new book BEYOND CREATION SCIENCE pg. 440.)]
The USA with all of its freedom is quickly being lost. The Christians that believe in these tragic
futurist misconceptions and a yet future rapture and a near-by Armageddon have left their GOD-given responsibilities
and privileges. This abandonment leaves the once-Christian USA to say nothing about the rest of the world, to such
evils as the ACLU, the liberal judges, courts and law makers, anti-creationism, anti-prayer, gay [same sex] marriage,
partial birth abortion, the total acceptance of porn of every degree, human cloning, removing of the Ten Commandments, the
homo-sexuals, the Family Planning Centers and child molesters such as MANBLA [Man BoyLove Association which is backed by the
ACLU, just to mention only a very few! Also be aware that these false leaders are the same ones that are advising our decision-making Presidents and is controlling the Jewish
situation in Israel [A supposed special
people of GOD] by way of a bankrupt agenda.
When
Jesus uttered the words, "This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled" (Mt. 24:34; Mk. 13:30; Lu.
21:32), He meant His own generation.
Jesus said He would return before His generation died. This may sound shocking to some, but it's true! The Second Coming of
Christ has already happened. Jesus returned (just as He said He would) when the city of Jerusalem and
the Jewish Temple were destroyed by the Romans in A.D. 70.
If Jesus returned
within His generation,
then the Futurist
view is a lie.
If Jesus didn’t return within His generation,
then Christianity
is a lie.

What
will you say to GOD when asked about these evils? You will have no choice but to say "Oh, I was told by my preacher
or my TV evangelist that the world had to become more and more evil so that you (Christ Jesus) could come back and rapture
us out." The LORD will say to you, "Didn't you read the Bible that I had so carefully preserved for you over the many
centuries? I told you in my very own Words that the exact opposite was true in so many ways and so many times!" I know what I will say: “LORD, I tried to warn them.”

one and only Covenant and what it means for us in todays world please study the NEW COVENANT CREATION FROM GENESIS TO REVELATION by Timothy P. Martin & Jeffery L. Vaughn, PhD.
Note of Importance:
If you think that I am overstating our situation
how would you explain one of the latest judicial decisions where not only your land but all of your property can be taken
under the newly rewritten law of Eminent Domain? What made us free men in a free
country was the fact that man could own his own land. Now anyone [even contractors] can
take your land for a variety of reasons which makes us none other than Indentured Servants [bondsmen]. We will continue to pay very high and ever increasingly higher taxes while maintaining this land [your
properties] until the time comes when that someone wants your property for whatever purpose. And what about
the evil subject matter that is being forced up our children in the public schools! What saith you dear servant? ~BEK
America’s Voice is Being Heard
Despite the pleas by the menacing alliance of tax-hungry municipalities and land-hungry developers to do nothing, legislators
across the country are quickly moving to fix their abysmal eminent domain laws. The problem of eminent domain abuse was highlighted
by the U.S. Supreme Court’s dreadful decision in Kelo v. City of New London, which gave governments the green light to take your
home or business and give it to a politically connected private developer because that developer might be able to produce
more taxes and more jobs off of your land.

If we are to ever have peace in the middle-east,
If we are ever to see an end of terrorism, we must have an impact on American foreign policy. If we are to have an impact
on American foreign policy, we must have an impact on American politicians. If we are to have an impact on American politicians,
we must have an impact on Christians. We must proclaim the truth that the Church is “the Israel of God”.
- Why is the timing as to when Jesus returned or will return so important?
- If the truth isn’t made known then the Futurist lie will continue to be believed.
- If the Futurist lie is believed, then the Christians, Christian groups, and the
U.S.A., the British, and most all of the very powerful Christian and military world leaders will have been, and are, and will
continue to be mislead and deceived.
- Under the Futurist doctrine, they will be taught by their advisors and church leaders
that the Israelites are still God’s special, chosen people. Today, however,
the church that believes in Jesus Christ constitutes the chosen people of God.
- The world’s most powerful leaders will then be the ones that help these Jews
in every way with out any questions asked monetarily, militarily or any other way. They will be deluded into thinking they
are helping to fulfill a mission of God.
- These leaders will do anything to keep the Israelites in power and in their own
supposed land and will protect them from everyone, no matter how badly the Israelites conduct themselves. This is known as
Christian Zionism!
- This unquestioned and blind alliance will be seen by the rest of the world as if
a despot God is attacking innocent peoples.
- This will create a worldwide disruption such as terrorism, or something even worse!
- This terrorism will never end until GOD’s truth is known.
- The truth is that Jesus did come back in A.D. 70 and now there is only one people
and one salvation. There is no longer a distinction between Jew and gentile in the eyes of God, nor in His plans. The Church
has become the Israel of God.
- This is why the truth of Preterism needs to be made known to ALL. The time of the Lord’s return suddenly becomes intensely important to each and every individual.
~by David B. Curtis

Did you
know that the Bible NEVER mentions the END OF TIME? It only tells of THE TIME OF THE END... of course meaning the END
of the OLD COVENANT AGE or WORLD. The Bible also promises that the physical world will never end ...just as the Christian
Age will never end. If this is true and it is ...then it should cause you great concern to realize that this country
and all of it's God given blessings and Christian duties/priviledges are being forsaken thus left to the Liberals (non-christians)
without regard or resistance. This is due to the modern false belief that our fight is useless because this 'physical' world
has to become continually more and more wicked by God's design. Then... at any time you will be 'rapture out' from these
problems. Don't believe it! Just because of a somewhat recent false belief in eschatology known as Dispensationalism,
the Futurist Position, which by the way tries to explain away the imminent nature of the Second Coming prophecies of the New
Testament rather than to explain them in positive terms, all is being lost. Check it out...you are as personally
responsible as anyone else. [world without end Eph. 3:21 KJV, the earth remains forever Ecclesiastes 1:4,
end of the age Matthews 13:39, 49, 24:3]

POINTS TO PONDER:
Is Preterist
Theology truly HERETICAL as accused by today’s Futurist leaders and teachers? Which doctrine would actually prove to
be HERETICAL? Wouldn’t Jesus have to be considered as a false prophet if
He had NOT fulfilled His promises in the first century as the Scriptures plainly teach? How could Preterism possibly be a heretical doctrine if Jesus did fulfill His promises right on time in that first century as Biblical
disciplines command? Wouldn't it have to be considered heretical to believe that the Lord’s Word and the prophecies
of Jesus were in error?
If Jesus is a false prophet then my faith is in vain. If Jesus was mistaken in His predictions how can we then rely
on Him for salvation or anything else?
But don't despair, Jesus is GOD and there is NO OTHER, leaving us with the only possible conclusion: His Word being true would have to mean that the Futurists interpretations concerning
future events have to be rethought and greatly adjusted. Those future events then were in the Apostles future but now
have been fulfilled! All Biblical prophecies are now in our past. This
is extremely good news . . .
-THINK ABOUT IT-

When you interpret the Bible here are some questions to ask:
1. What is the subject
matter?
2. Who is writing, talking,
or teaching?
3 Who is the speaker talking to?
4. What is the historical
time frame and current events?
5. Where did this take
place and what culture is present?
6. What events have happened
before and what promises were given?
7. What particular words
have been chosen?
8. What did those words
mean when they were written?
9. Who was doing the talking?
Apostles, evil men, devils,
angels or GOD?
10. What other relevant
Scriptures should be consulted to help determine the true meaning and intent?
11. Was it spoken as a
fable, metaphor, hyperbole, irony,
simile, parable, metonymy,
anthropomorphism, allegory, sarcasm, interrogation, riddle or as personification?
12. What was the obvious
meaning or face value of the text? Avoid reducing it down into a mystery with sundry and hidden meanings.
13. What is the Word of
GOD? Make sure that you are using the most accurate translation possible, such
as the KJV! Most modern translations, such as the NIV, are derived from unreliable [corrupt] manuscripts and do not
attempt to preserve the words that GOD used. Often the idea or thought as understood
by the translator becomes the text in these versions known a Dynamic Equivalence.
14. It's also important to interpret Scripture by allowing the New Testament to shed light on the OT. And do this in
a 'Covenantal' mode. Also let the easier text help intrepret the more difficult texts.
15. Remember; There is no gap between the New Testament/Covenat and the Old Testament/Covenant!
The entire Bible fits perfectly together with no gaps; The New and Old Covenants giving witness to each other as God
tells us His one and only plan for humanity!
16. Here is another important one to keep in Mind: Allow God's Word ( the Scriptures) and God's Good Creation (the physical
earth and universe) to be a true witness unto each other in determining truth.
17. Be careful not to insist on creating a need for eroneous miracles in order to bolster false doctrines at the
price of distorting the ture and plain meanings of Scripture.
[Many of these Concepts were taken form W. Robert Palmer's book HOW TO UNDERSTAND THE BIBLE]

If Jesus returned within His generation,
then the Futurist view is a lie. If Jesus didn’t return within His generation,
then Christianity is a lie.

...In a dramatic and comparative fashion, Rev. White lays out the reasons why pastors and people of faith need
to get involved in the public square.
Rev.
White tells the story of taking his two, 20-and 23-year-old sons on a trip to Germany over a Christmas vacation. He explains that “as a Lutheran Christian that’s
where my historical and theological roots are and I wanted the boys to see where they came from and to get some context .
. . a setting in which to evaluate and assess what’s happening in our country and in their lives.” And also “because
I wanted them to see what happened to this great Christian nation, this homeland of the Reformation, almost overnight.”
One afternoon they rented a van and drove . . . to Sachsenhausen, one of Hitler’s prototype concentration camps. They
toured the barracks, and saw the bails of human hair and the piles of children’s shoes, and the medical labs where gruesome
experiments were conducted on living human beings without anesthetic.
Below
is an abbreviated transcription of the rest of his speech:
And finally we walked to the back where far in the corner the crematorium
once stood, the oven where they burned the bodies of the dead. And out in front of it was a grotesque wrought-iron statue
of two emaciated inmates hauling the dead body of one of their cohorts toward the gaping doors of the oven. . . . as we came
up there three days after Christmas, in front of that doorway to that crematorium there was a withered Christmas wreath with
a white ribbon on it. And the slogan on that ribbon said:
From the Christians of Germany:
We kneel before God in btter regret and humble repentance
and we ask his forgiveness for the death of the Jews and all the others who died in this place.
. . . . For the first time my boys understood
within the depths of their hearts what’s happening in America today. . . . There in Sachsenhausen, for the very first time, they saw for themselves how much is at
stake in our America, and how desperately important these issues are and how much we stand to lose if we do not awaken and
rouse ourselves, quickly.
The Christians in Germany learned only too late that
the people of God in Christ cannot disengage from the culture in which they live. We cannot withdraw to the comfortable
security of our beautiful sanctuaries and sit in our padded pews while the world all around us goes to hell. For to
do so is a betrayal of the Lord whose name we bear and is a denial of the power and efficacy of his Word, the Word that He
has given us to proclaim.
In Germany, as here in the
United States, one of the most clever tools in the enemy’s arsenal used to silence and intimidate Christians, to drive
them out of the public square was the lie of the separation of Church and State. . . .
So Hitler called together
the most important preachers in the land . . . . to reassure them, and intimidate them, if he could, to silence their criticism
so he could go on with his plans for the country . . . . He told them their state subsides would continue, their tax exemptions
were secure, that the church had nothing to fear from a Nazi government.
And finally, one brash young preacher who was there
. . . had had enough. He was going to tell the truth even if that truth was not popular. And he pushed his way to the
front of the room until he stood eye to eye with the German dictator. And he said, “Herr Hitler, our concern is not
for the Church. Jesus Christ will take care of his Church. Our concern is for the soul of our nation.” It was immediately
evident that the brash young preacher spoke only for himself, as a chagrined silence fell over that room and his colleagues
hustled him away from the front.
Hitler with a natural politician’s instinct
saw that reaction and he understood exactly what it meant. And, he smiled as he said to himself almost reflectively, “The
soul of Germany, you can leave that to me.” And they did. They kept their religion and their politics strictly
separate from one another. And as the innocent were slaughtered and as the nation was led down the path to destruction, they
looked the other way and they minded their own business. And their country was destroyed [in twelve short years].
I would submit to you today that we in America find ourselves in a frighteningly
similar predicament. Once again, the innocent are being slaughtered in a 26-year holocaust [over 40 million boys and girls]
that makes Hitler look like a humanitarian by comparison. Once again, a nation is being led down the path of destruction and,
once again, by and large, God’s people are looking the other way.
I don’t have to tell anyone in this room
tonight how far down that path to destruction we have already traveled. . . . And that’s because in large part every
time a Christian, particularly a Christian pastor, raises his voice on a matter of public policy, the immediate hue and cry
from the media and from the political and educational elite and the establishment is “Wait a minute! We have the separation
of Church and State in this country. You Christians, you keep your morality to yourselves.” As history repeats itself,
they smile reassuringly as they tell us, “The soul of America, you can leave that to us.” And we have.
Brothers and sisters, the time has come and
is long since past [for us to] stop listening to and being immobilized by these lies from the father of lies. This is
the genius of America. The recognition that a country like ours, a country where the people rule, must be a country where
morality prevails!
But that’s not the kind of country we
have seen developing all around us every day. That’s not the kind of country we read about when we pick up the newspapers
every morning. America has forgotten who she is. And if she does not remember soon, it will be too late. . . .
America will not turn from the path
of destruction until the Christians of this land stop blending in and going along . . . . We must stop compromising and yielding.
We must start standing and confessing . . . . but of this one thing we can be absolutely certain, the Lord God Almighty hates
the murder of innocent, unborn children. We can win the next election, or the next ten elections. We can balance the budget.
We can reduce the deficit. We can bring down taxes and build the mightiest military machine on the face of the earth. But
if we do not stop abortion, then God will destroy, and God should destroy, America! . . . .
On that great day of reckoning,
it will not be enough to say, “Lord, we were in church every Sunday. We built great churches in your name. We established
great programs in your name. We raised millions of dollars in your name.” On that great day of reckoning to those who
stood silent while the killing went on, the Lord will say, “Depart from Me you cursed ones for I do not know you.”
But in the amazing grace, the incredible mercy
and longsuffering of our wonderful God, that day has not yet come. America may turn her back on God but God, for
some reason, has not yet turned his back on America. So let us work while it is still day before the night comes, when no man can work. Let us arouse the
Christians of this city and of this land to be what God has called and enabled them to be—the stinging salt that stops
the decay of death, the shining light that dispels the darkness of doubt and despair, the gleaming city set high upon a hill
that stands as a beacon light of life and hope to this nation and every nation. Let us learn from the mistakes of the past.
Let us stand upon the Word of God. Let us save this country that we claim to love, as we become involved in the process in
this crucial moment that God has given us.
God is placing before us a challenge before
it is too late. And I pray that we will find within the depths of our hearts and souls the courage and the faith and the conviction
to rise to that challenge and make the most of that opportunity. It is within our power because God has placed it there. It
is within our grasp to change this America before it is too late, to snatch our country back from the brink of destruction.
All the signs of the deadly decay all around us are
unmistakably clear. Our nation’s leaders wallow in decadence and deceit. While the polls tell us that people don’t
care. And apathy and indifference prevail. We must care as the people of God in Christ. We must be the salt, and the light,
and the shining city.
As Christians gathered here today, let us resolve not to repeat the mistakes of the past.
Let us resolve not to allow evil men to triumph simply because good men have done nothing. Let us stand together as the people
of God, bold in the confidence of the Spirit, and declare before our nation, “The soul of American, you can leave that
to us!”

Are We Witnessing
The Rise Of The Fourth Reich?
By Chuck Baldwin
February 7, 2006
Without a doubt, comparisons to Hitler have
been overdone. It seems that when a writer disagrees with the policies of a sitting president, be he Republican or Democrat,
there exists a ubiquitous temptation to compare him with the ignoble German leader. Some
will no doubt charge this author with having succumbed to this temptation. Perhaps I have.
However, as a student of both the Bible and
history, I believe we in America are living in times that are eerily reminiscent of
the days leading up to the rise of the Third Reich. If after reviewing this thesis, the reader wants to dismiss its conclusions
as insipid and irrelevant, he or she is certainly free to do so.
On the other hand, it would do the reader
good to heed the words of George Santayana who said, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." If America is truly flirting with any semblance of the
fallacious and fallen Reich (which I believe it is), it is incumbent upon each
and every true American (especially Christians) to renounce, reject, and repudiate such flirtations as early and as vociferously
as possible!
There are many facets and aspects of the
Third Reich which could and should be analyzed. For the purpose of this column, however, I want to focus on the attitude and
actions of the ministers and churches of Germany
at the time of Hitler's rise.
My focus upon the German church is predicated
upon the fact that as a Christian pastor (I have been the pastor of an Independent
Baptist Church for more than
30 years), it is my studied opinion that any western nation will rise or fall according to the attitudes and actions of its
Christian leaders and churches. Scripture says, "Judgment must begin at the house of God." Therefore, while any nation might
survive corrupt politicians, greedy merchants, and sinful citizens, it cannot survive cowardly, compromising churches! As
the churches go, so goes the country!
In the case of Nazi Germany, it was the German
churches first and foremost that failed their country. It was the churches that provided Hitler with moral and spiritual cover.
It was the ministers and churches that allowed Hitler to seduce the nation. Some ministers
were no doubt deceived themselves. Many others, like Adam, partook of the forbidden fruit with their eyes wide open.
Either way, without the help and assistance of Germany's
churches, the Nazi Party could never have become such a horrible leviathan. Therefore,
let's examine the attitudes and actions of Germany's ministers and churches
and compare them to America's ministers
and churches today to see if there is any similarity.
As we delve into this material, I want to
strongly recommend that the reader purchase and devour a book to which I will repeatedly refer. The book is entitled, "Hitler's
Cross." It is written by Erwin Lutzer and published by Moody Press. The book is absolutely
phenomenal! If you do not read any other book this year (beside the Bible), read "Hitler's Cross."
Now, let's examine the evidence. It is a fact that when Adolph Hitler began his ascent to power, many, if not most, of Germany's Christians believed he was an answer to their prayers.
Lutzer says many Christians replaced pictures of Christ in their homes with pictures of Hitler. They truly believed Hitler
was "God's man" for Germany. They believed
that to resist Hitler was to resist God. And why not?
As Lutzer notes, Hitler revived Germany's collapsed economy. He eradicated the shame of Germany's defeat in WWI by reclaiming the Rhineland. He gave
generous vacations to the German people. He created numerous trade schools that trained and equipped Germany's workers.
Thus, almost overnight, Germany's vast
unskilled labor force was replaced with highly skilled workers. In fact, under Hitler,
Germany had virtually no unemployment. Furthermore, Hitler brought crime under control. He built freeways and highways that were the envy of Europe. He literally brought the German people out of poverty and despair and made them a great and
proud people once again. As a result, the German people, including German Christians, loved him!
Unfortunately, as Hitler was building Germany's economy and strengthening its military, he was also
taking away the rights and liberties of the German people. Remember, Germany
was a republic before Hitler came along. The principles of individual freedom and constitutional government were at one time
precious to Germans. However, most German people were willing to gladly trade their liberty and freedoms for Hitler's promise
of security and strength. It was a bad trade then. It is a bad trade now!
Lutzer documents the fact that at the time
of Hitler's rise, there were some 14,000 evangelical churches in Germany.
To win the support of these churches, Hitler literally wrapped himself and the Nazi Party in the Cross of Jesus Christ. Even
today, one can view photos from Nazi parades showing the Cross of Christ highlighted in the heart of the Nazi Swastika.
In short order, Germany's pastors and churches were convinced that the Nazi Party was God's party
and Hitler was God's man. By the time Hitler consolidated power and became Germany's
Fuhrer, the Nazi Swastika was displayed proudly on the walls and halls of Germany's churches, both Catholic and Protestant.
Germany's pastors often preached sermons supporting Hitler and the Nazi Party.
They told their congregants that to support any other party or any other potential leader was to "fight against God." Very
soon, congregants who refused to swear loyalty to Hitler were denied last rites and Holy Communion by Catholic priests, while
Protestant pastors excommunicated such members. Romans chapter 13 was often quoted from Germany's pulpits as scriptural justification for demanding loyalty to Hitler.
Even the famous Canadian pastor, Oswald J.
Smith (Pastor of the People's Church in Toronto), was taken
with Hitler. In 1936 Smith wrote, "What, you ask is the real attitude of the German people toward Hitler? There is but one
answer. They love him. Yes, from the highest to the lowest, children and parents, old and young alike, they love their new
leader. They trust him to a man.
"What about your elections? I asked. 'We
don't want another party. We are satisfied with Hitler.' And that feeling exists everywhere. Every true Christian is for Hitler.
I know, for it was from the Christians I got most of my information, and right or wrong, they endorse Adolph Hitler." (Source:
"Hitler's Cross" by Erwin Lutzer, pp. 109, 110)
One German pastor, Julius Leutherser gushed,
"Christ has come to us through Hitler. [T]hrough his honesty, his faith and his idealism, the Redeemer found us." (Source
"Hitler's Cross" by Lutzer, p.101)
Lutzer writes on page 102 of his book, "[I]n Hitler's day being
a good Christian involved being a good German nationalist. God and country were practically one and the same."
Germany's Christians forgot that Christ's kingdom "is not of this world." Their
desire to restore Germany's greatness
and their patriotism somehow dwarfed their commitment to Christ and their fidelity to republican principles. Accordingly,
their trust in God was supplanted with trust in Hitler, and their allegiance to principles of freedom was replaced with allegiance
to the Nazi Party.
Of course, Hitler knew exactly what he was
doing. He knew he needed the support of Germany's
churches and pastors and he played the role of Christian leader magnificently. Privately, however, he despised Germany's clergymen. He said, "The parsons will dig their
own graves. They will betray their God to us. They will betray anything for the sake of their miserable jobs and incomes."
How right he was!
Out of 14,000 German ministers, all but 800
gave Hitler their unequivocal and unflinching loyalty. Among the 800 was the great Christian patriot Dietrich Bonhoeffer who
was later assassinated by Hitler's henchmen. Virtually all of the 800 courageous pastors who refused to support Hitler were
sent to concentration camps.
What would have happened had 10,000 ministers
in Germany resisted Hitler? What would
have happened if 10,000 ministers would have refused to compromise their loyalty to Jesus Christ, their commitment to republican
principles, and their devotion to sacred duty? What would have happened if 10,000 Christian ministers had not allowed the
National Socialist Party to supplant their loyalty to God's Word?
It seems clear to me that the attitudes and
actions of Nazi Germany's ministers and churches are being repeated in the United
States today. To a large degree, Evangelicals have wrapped the Cross of Christ in the banner
of the Republican Party. They quote Romans chapter 13 to justify their unflinching,
yes, even blind support for President Bush. They are willing to surrender their freedoms and liberties so that President Bush
might protect them. Pictures of the president almost universally line the halls and walls of
our churches, Christian schools, and pastors' offices. They castigate and denigrate in the most caustic terms anyone who dares
to challenge or even question President Bush. They are willing to let the president lead them into multiple wars, even wars
of aggression, based solely on Bush's word. They refuse to hold the president
accountable to the principles of our Constitution and Bill of Rights. It seems to me that President Bush has taken on the
aura of an American Fuhrer in the minds of many Evangelicals.
Just how far are Evangelicals willing to
allow Bush to go? They already support unbridled spying on American citizens. They have gladly surrendered their Fourth Amendment
rights. Would they be willing to support the imprisonment of fellow Christians who don't support Bush if the Department of
Homeland Security ordered it? I believe many would. And if so, how is that different
from the attitudes of Christians in Nazi Germany?
Again, readers may dismiss my observations
as insane if they want to. However, please notice that the focus of this column was not so much on Hitler but on the attitudes
and actions of Germany's ministers and
churches.
If the reader can honestly and objectively
look at the history of Germany's ministers and churches and see no similarity to the attitudes and actions of America's ministers
and churches today, so be it. To me, however, the similarities are striking!
